Sun awareness

As your trusted salon, we want to make sure you’re not just looking fabulous but also taking care of your hair health. This week, we’re focusing on sun care and protection, and we’ve got some fantastic tips to share with you!

Here are our top 10 tips

  1. Use UV Protection: Just like your skin, your hair needs protection from harmful UV rays. Look for hair care products such as leave-in conditioners or sprays that contain UV filters to shield your hair from sun damage. Our faves are EUFORA leave in repair treatment and EUFORA leave in hydration cream.
  2. Wear a Hat or Scarf: Cover your hair with a wide-brimmed hat or a scarf when spending extended periods in the sun. This provides an extra layer of protection against UV rays and helps to prevent your hair from becoming dry and brittle.
  3. Hydrate Your Hair: Sun exposure can strip moisture from your hair, leaving it dry and prone to damage. Keep your hair hydrated by using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, and consider using a hydrating hair mask once a week to replenish lost moisture. SENSUS after sun range is a perfect all rounder, is intensely moisturises after sun exposure but also contains UV protection.
  4. Limit Heat Styling: Excessive heat styling combined with sun exposure can weaken your hair and cause it to become more susceptible to damage. Try to limit the use of heat styling tools such as hair dryers, curling irons, and straighteners, especially during the summer months. Or at least turn the heat down!
  5. Wet your hair before Swimming: Think of your hair as a sponge, if the hair is already saturated with water it will absorb less of the chemical from the swimming pool
  6. Rinse After Swimming: Chlorine and saltwater can be harsh on your hair, causing it to become dry and brittle. After swimming, rinse your hair with fresh water to remove any chlorine or salt residue, and follow up with a hydrating conditioner to restore moisture.
  7. Protect Your Scalp: Just like your hair, your scalp can also be damaged by sun exposure. Protect your scalp by wearing a hat or applying a little sunscreen to exposed areas, especially if you have thin or fine hair that doesn’t provide much coverage.
  8. Trim Regularly: Regular trims help to keep your hair healthy by removing split ends and preventing further damage. Aim to trim your hair every 6-8 weeks, or as needed, to keep it looking its best.
  9. Use a Leave-In Conditioner: A leave-in conditioner can provide added protection and hydration for your hair throughout the day. Look for a lightweight formula that won’t weigh your hair down, and apply it to damp hair before styling. We love SENSUS daily repair leave in spray, you can also spritz all over your body for a refreshing and moisturising effect.
  10. Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water helps to keep your hair hydrated from the inside out. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, especially during hot weather, to help maintain healthy hair and scalp.

By following these tips, you can help to protect your hair from sun damage and keep it looking healthy and vibrant all summer long!
